Jesse James Yazell

Jesse James “Jake” Yazell, 80 of Portsmouth, Ohio, passed away on March 21, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in West Union, Ohio, Feb. 12, 1942, a son of the late James F. and Minnie Bowen Yazell. Jake was a U.S. Army Veteran and worked at St. Mary’s Church and ACE Termite.

Preceded in death besides his parents are one son, Brian Sexton of LaPorte, Texas, brothers, Alva Yazell and Charlie Fletcher of Portsmouth, Ohio, Linda Potts of Portsmouth, Norma Jean Fletcher of West Union and grandsons, Mickey Barb, Joshua Barb, Nathan Sexton and Jeremy Barb.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Martha Fisher Yazell, children, Candy (Joey) Adams of Florida, Cindy Sexton of Lucasville, Jay Sexton of Florida, Rocky (Rosa) Sexton, Karen Sexton (Daughter-in-law) of Texas, Lisa Hester of Portsmouth, Kimberly (Joe) Brewer of Minford, Jesse (Melissa) Yazell of Friendship and Jerry (Shauna) Yazell of Lucasville, 29 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

The Yazell family would like to take this time to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Heartland Hospice for the loving care of their husband, father, brother and the Veterans Administration, especially, Jeri Tredway, RN, for her friendship and exceptional service.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made in Jesses name to Heartland Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2022 at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Kentucky with Pastor Greg Carter, officiating. Burial will follow in the Firebrick Cemetery, Firebrick, Kentucky. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 till 8 p.m. and one hour before the service time on Friday.
