Dona Howerton King

January 12, 1940 ~ May 29, 2018 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Tribute

Dona Blendine Howerton King of Richardson, Texas, died peacefully on May 29, 2018, in Richardson.  She was surrounded by family and friends who sang and played some of her favorite songs and shared fun stories about her life. She was born January 12, 1940, to her loving parents, Orville Major and Freda Bertine Howerton of South Portsmouth, Kentucky.  A 1958 graduate of McKell High School in South Shore, Kentucky, she remained close to many of her classmates and loved returning to Kentucky for class reunions. Her focus in life was family and friends.  She was like a mother to many, especially her younger sisters. Dona loved to dance, sing, play piano, write poetry, and was quite the story teller.  She especially loved telling stories about those family members who had passed – keeping their memories alive for younger generations. She was always the life of the party! Dona was a movie buff and she loved to shop!  Her many gifts given to family and friends will be treasured for years to come. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard A. Howerton.  She is survived by her best friend, Karl King of Richardson, her son Wes Phelps and daughter-in-law Mary Jane Phelps of Versailles, Kentucky, her sisters Teresa Howerton of Midway, Kentucky, and Joanna Howerton of Austin, Texas, grandchildren Christopher and Laura Jane Phelps, and her many nieces and nephews in Texas and back home in Kentucky.  Dona will be sincerely missed by her family, devoted friends, and all who knew and loved her.

Dona's family wants to offer their heartfelt thanks to the Dignity Health Team for their incredible, compassionate care in her final year.

A celebration of Dona's life will be held in both Texas and Kentucky.
