Obituary

William Henry Howard, 92, peacefully departed this life on July 13, 2013 surrounded by family and friends at his home in South Shore, Ky. William was born on May 6, 1921 in Brushart, Ky., to the late Robert and Mary Duewell Howard. He was a proud U.S. Army World War II Veteran. William loyally served his country from July 23, 1942 to December 30, 1945 in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and Luzon. After his services, William received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Award with 3 bronze medals, the Philippines Liberation Award with 1 bronze medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. In his civilian life, William was an avid fox hunter, diligent farmer, construction laborer, and co-owner of Howard's Grocery. William is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bernice Greene Howard, his brother Wayne "Erma" Howard of Garrison, Ky., his son Ishmel Dale "Connie" Howard of South Shore, Ky., and daughter Tammy "JB" Hall of South Shore, Ky., his grandchildren, Stephanie "Jeff" Sparks of South Shore, Ky., Robert Dale "Rachael" Howard of South Shore, Ky., William Wesley Claxon of South Shore, Ky., and step-granddaughter, Jessica "Robert" Womack of Greenup, Ky., four great grandchildren Jeffrey Scott Sparks, Keith Walker Sparks, Ella Elizabeth Howard, William Grayson Howard, and one step great grandson Kyle Womack, very special niece and nephew Homer and Cherie Royster and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Elby "Garnet" Howard, Artie Howard, and Lawrence Howard, and two sisters Evelyn Burton and Avanelle Adkins. Funeral services will be 2 P.M Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky., with Pastor Gary Jordan and Pastor Britt Bush, officiating. Burial will in Logan Cemetery, in Greenup, Ky. Friends may call at the Roberson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 11 A.M. till the funeral hour at 2 P.M. In Lieu of flowers donation can be made to Community Hospice Care Center 1408 Carter Ave. Ashland, Ky. 41101.
