Thelma Irene Mercer, 94, of Portsmouth, Ohio went to her heavenly home on Jan. 11, 2022 in Hill View Retirement Center in Portsmouth. She was born in Fullerton, Kentucky, Feb. 9, 1927, a daughter of the late Arthur Carl Miller and Rose Lucille Hunt Miller. Thelma was a lifelong member of the Central Church of Christ in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Preceded in death by her husband, John Calvin Mercer, one brother, Arthur Carl Miller, two sisters, Dorothy Mae Williams, Katheryn Vanhoose.

Surviving are two daughters, Christi Layne and Louanne (Robert) Piatt both of Portsmouth, Ohio, three grandchildren, Dr. Eric M.(Ashley) Layne, Jason A. (Erica) Layne and Elizabeth A. Piatt, step grandson, Nathan Piatt, five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 at the Roberson funeral Home in South Shore, Kentucky with Brother Dennis Dawes, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, South Shore. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. till the service hour at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The family ask that mask be worn during services.
