After graduating from Morehead State University, Morehead, Kentucky with a Bachelor's degree in Music in 1966, he began his career as a band director teaching at Glen Este High School in Amelia, OH.  At the personal request of the Greenup County Superintendent in 1969, Roger returned to his Alma mater, McKell High School, and taught there until the consolidation of Greenup County High Schools, where he was band director for several years before joining Western-Southern Life Insurance Company in Portsmouth, OH.  After receiving his Master's degree in education, he finished his career teaching band and music at several schools in Ohio and Kentucky:  Portsmouth East High School, Sciotoville, OH; Boyd County High School, Cannonsburg, KY; and Valley High School, Lucasville, OH, retiring in 1999.  After retirement, Roger played in several bands and orchestras in the tri-state area and had the honor of volunteering with the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.  Roger touched many lives- family, friends, neighbors, fellow band directors and musicians; elementary, junior high and high school students – and inspired many of his students who loved and respected him to pursue a career in music. Roger attended the Sixth and Brown Sts. Church of God in Portsmouth, OH.  He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his sons, Darren (Kim) of Damascus, Virginia; Eric (Leah) of Coal Grove, Ohio, Michael of Lexington, Kentucky; and four grandchildren, Kaylee, Lyndsay, Silas and Rylan.
