Katherine "Clay" Holcomb , 93, passed away peacefully on Mother's Day, May 12, 2013 at Hempstead Manor, following an extended illness.
She was born in Greenup County, Kentucky on June 19, 1919 to the late Russell Clay and Nannie "Barnhardt" Clay.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jerome Holcomb of fifty eight years in September of 1991, and by a son Paul Eugene Holcomb in 2002. Also by her siblings, Russell (Buddy), John Henry, Edsel, Billy Ray, Donald, and Terry Clay, sisters, Adeline, Yvonne Clay and a great granddaughter Kystral Litteral.
She is survived by a daughter Juanita "George" Bond of St. Paul, Kentucky, two sons Ellis "Phyllis" Holcomb of South Shore, Kentucky, Bill "Pat" Holcomb of Douglasville, Georgia, two sisters Dorothy Oney of Las Vegas, Nevada, Beverly Jo "Jim" Reeder of South Portsmouth, Kentucky, two Brothers Ronald "Nevadean" Clay of Vista, California and Willard Clay of West Portsmouth, Ohio. She also had 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 14 great great grandchildren.
She was a former employee of Williams Shoe Factory of Portsmouth, Ohio and was a faithful member of Firebrick Christian Baptist Church for several years as the oldest member. She leaves behind several good friends, especially Pauline Cordelle, who was more like a sister.
Funeral services will be 1 P.M. Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Firebrick Christian Baptist Church in Firebrick, Kentucky with Rev. Raymond Lewis, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, South Shore, Kentucky.
Friends may call at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Kentucky Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 6 P.M. till 8 P.M. and from 12 P.M. till the funeral hour at the Church on Wednesday.
