James Hobson, Jim to most, Mr H. to some, 78, of South Portsmouth, KY, passed away on October 8, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born on January 24, 1948, in Portsmouth, OH, a son of the late Reverend (A.J.) Alex Junior Hobson and Eula Peterman Hobson.

Along with his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary, and the mother of his children, Francis Slater Hobson; two sons, Jamie Mark Hobson and Timothy Joe Slater; one sister, Janet Bailey; and three brothers, Fred Hobson, Gary Hobson, and Truman Hobson.

Left behind are four daughters, Kimberly (Greg) Hall of South Portsmouth, KY, Melissa (Ray Tackett) Tucker of South Portsmouth, KY, Tina (Tim) Stump of South Shore, KY, and Stacy Thomas of Rubyville, OH; seven grandchildren, Gregory (Savannah) Hall, Shandi (Todd) Hayden, Leann (Derek) Bowen, Brandon Tabor, Jamie (Brooklyn) Hobson, Haley Hobson, and Allie Thomas; ten great-grandchildren, Ledger, Winnie, Macey, Makenna, Hunter, Eliana, Yosef, John Luke, Ember, and Rhett; three sisters, Mary Cane, Ginny Sublet and Becky Lawson.

Funeral services will be at 1 P.M. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, KY, with Chris Fannin officiating. He will be laid to rest at Collier Memorial Gardens in South Portsmouth, KY, alongside his son Jamie, as he requested. Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday at the funeral home from 11 A.M. until the funeral hour.
