Obituary

George Robert Cobern, 75, passed away peacefully at his home on October 3, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 23, 1951, to the late George R. Cobern Sr. and the late Frances L. Jones Cobern.

On March 10, 1986, Junior married the love of his life, Karen Faythe Adams Cobern. Their marriage was truly a love story—a fairy tale kind of love, the kind of love that could have been written for a movie. For more than 40 years, they shared a life filled with devotion, laughter, adventure, faith, and an unshakable love for one another. Junior lovingly called his sweetheart “KC,” while Karen affectionately called him her “Jun-pup.” Their love was one of Junior’s greatest treasures and one of the most beautiful parts of his life.

Junior loved Jesus, and his faith was not something he kept quietly to himself. His love for his Savior was transparent and evident to everyone who knew him. He proudly wore hats expressing his faith and love for Jesus, spoke openly about the Lord, and lived his life with a genuine love for God and others. His faith was a part of who he was, right down to the way he lived each day. He was a part of Faith Mountain Ministries, where his love for the Lord and fellowship with others were important to him.

Junior also loved his country deeply. He proudly flew the American flag and carried a tremendous respect and appreciation for the United States. His faith in God and his love for his country were both visible in the way he lived.

For more than 50 years, Junior was a master diesel mechanic, a trade that reflected his incredible ability to work with his hands and understand how things worked. Throughout his career, he worked for Valley Paving, Boone Coleman Construction, Life Ambulance, and Solid Rock. He was a hardworking man who took pride in doing a job well and was known for the knowledge and skill he had developed over decades.

Outside of work, Junior could often be found doing what he loved most—tinkering in his garage, working on hot rods, cooking, and spending time with the people he loved. His garage was a place where things were fixed, projects were dreamed up, and memories were made.

Junior had a special gift for bringing joy to others. For many years, he played Santa Claus for Life Ambulance, bringing smiles and Christmas magic to children and families. He also enjoyed driving a train in parades, another way he shared his playful spirit and love of making people happy.

But more than anything he accomplished, Junior’s greatest joy was his family and friends. He loved people, loved to laugh, and had a wonderful sense of humor that will be remembered by all who knew him. He enjoyed trips to the Tennessee Smoky Mountains with his beloved KC, making memories that will remain precious to her and their family.

And then there was Lilly, his beloved dog and faithful little companion. Junior especially enjoyed sharing his meals with Lilly, and anyone who knew them knew she had found a pretty generous dining partner.

Junior’s family includes his children, Waylon Cobern, Rick Monteith, Randy Monteith, Joey Monteith, Angie Altman, Karen Reed, and Paulette Monteith Mueller; his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Gary Cobern, Gail Hamilton, Debbie Hieronimus, Brenda Conley, Johnny Joe Cobern, Richard “Dick” Cobern, Jeff Cobern, Linda Wilson, Diana Wilson, Becky Brooks, Teresa Sapp, and Tammie Jo Burke.

Junior’s final months were surrounded by the love and care of his family. Their presence, support, and devotion were a beautiful reflection of the love Junior had given so freely throughout his life.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents, George R. Cobern Sr. and Frances L. Jones Cobern, along with other loved ones who went before him.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC) Hospice Care for the phenomenal, compassionate care they provided to Junior and his family. Their kindness, support, and dedication during his final journey will never be forgotten.

Junior leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured simply by his more than five decades of hard work. His true legacy is found in the people he loved, the family he cherished, the friendships he built, the laughter he shared, the faith he openly lived, and the memories he created.

He was a husband who deeply loved his wife, a father and grandfather who treasured his family, a friend who could make you laugh, a mechanic who could seemingly fix anything, a patriot who proudly flew his flag, a man who brought joy as Santa and a parade-train engineer, and a man whose love for Jesus was impossible to miss.

Though his family will miss his laughter, his humor, his stories, his tinkering, and his presence more than words can express, they can take comfort in knowing that the man who loved Jesus so openly has now gone home to be with the Savior he loved.

A life well lived. A love deeply shared. A faith openly lived. A legacy that will live on.

Until we meet again, Jun-pup.
