Obituary

Doris Marie Crowson Mullins, Lexington, formerly of South Shore, passed from this life on August 3, 2014.  She was born to Ellis Edward and Lee Audra Collins Crowson on August 21, 1926 River Junction, Gadsden County, Florida. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Earl Mullins, her parents, four brothers, Herbert, Ralph, Roy and Troy, and a sister, Betty Ruth Chase. Doris was a graduate of Academy Park High School and Kings Daughter's School of Nursing in Portsmouth, Virginia. She received her Associates Degree from Windham College (Maine).  Doris worked at Mercy and Southern Hills Hospitals in Portsmouth, Ohio, before becoming a Greenup County (Kentucky) Health Nurse. After her retirement, she traveled with a group of medical personnel coordinated by People To People touring hospitals and medical facilities in such places as China, Russia, South Africa, Australia and the Baltic States, advocating better health care services for all people. Doris also enjoyed being a member of the River Magic Chorus, a Sweet Adeline singing group, based in Huntington, West Virginia. Surviving are a sister, Claudia Janette Rodman of Portsmouth, Virginia; a brother, Howard Crowson of Chesapeake, Virginia; her five children: Charles Everett, of Olney, MD; Mary (Charles) Tuttle of Sunman, IN; Thomas Edward (Brenda Lair) of  Charlotte, NC; Michael Earl (Kathy Earwood) of Greenup, Kentucky, and Susan (Dempsey) Qualls of Georgetown, Kentucky.  Also surviving are eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral arrangements are through Roberson Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends is from 11-1 Thursday, August 7th at the Old Regular Baptist Church, South Shore Ky. with gravesite rites at Siloam Cemetery immediately following with Brother Thomas Mullins, officiating.
