Obituary

Charles M. "Charlie" Setters of Hodgenville, Ky, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Sunrise Manor in Hodgenville. He was 74. He was born in Maysville, Ky, on January 3, 1948, to Orville E and Mary Lou Setters. He graduated from McKell High School in South Shore, Ky, in 1966; from Western Kentucky University in 1972; and Samford University School of Pharmacy in 1974. He practiced retail pharmacy for 47 years, including 24 years as a co-owner of Robertson Pharmacy in Hodgenville. On January 26, 1963, he became the youngest Boy Scout in Kentucky at that time to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, for which he was also commissioned a Kentucky Colonel. Throughout his life, he remained an active contributor to his adopted home of LaRue County, as an expression of gratitude to a community he believed had given him so much. He was a member of Hodgenville United Methodist Church, formerly serving in the choir and in numerous lay positions. He coached little league football for a total of 20 years and coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball at all levels for many years. He twice served as the youth baseball president in LaRue County. He was the public address announcer for LaRue County High School football for 35 years. Additionally, he was a long-time radio broadcaster for LCHS football and both boys and girls basketball. He was heavily involved in the Lincoln Days Celebration Festival, twice serving as its president, chairing the Lincoln Days parade from 1995 to 2006, and chairing live entertainment since 2007. Over the years he made significant contributions to many, many other organizations and community activities, such as the Lincoln Museum, Luke 14, Relay for Life, and numerous other activities within LaRue County Public Schools. He was passionate about his family, his friends, his community, and the McKell High School Class of '66. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 49 years Paula, his aunt Esta White, his sister Mary Bess Fraley, and his brothers of choice James S. "Jim" Fraley and James S. "Jimmy" Curle. He is survived by his son Philip (Kimberly) of Louisville; his daughter Lora (Jason) of Hodgenville; his grandson Christopher "Chris" Kelly (Rebekah) of Pioneer Village; his granddaughter Sarah Haavistola of Brandenburg; his grandsons Jonas and Charles "Little Charlie" Lamb of Hodgenville; his great-granddaughter and great-grandson Peyton and Coulter Kelly of Pioneer Village; his fiancée Karen Rock of Hodgenville; his sister Anna Randall (Stephen) of Bonaire, Ga; many treasured cousins, nieces, nephews; and friends. His friends and family will celebrate his life at Noon on November 5, 2022, at Hodgenville United Methodist Church, 825 Tonieville Road, Hodgenville, Ky.
